Today, associate Devon Black spent an hour in Victoria’s Centennial Square dispensing free legal advice to clients of Pro Bono Going Public, an annual fundraiser for Access Pro Bono. The event, now in its tenth year, helps raise money for Access Pro Bono’s free legal service programs for people in need across BC.
Access to justice is a growing issue in BC and across Canada. We lag behind our peer countries in access to civil justice, especially when it comes to issues of access and affordability. While in BC we’re lucky to benefit from the largest pro bono legal service network in Canada, organizations like Access Pro Bono are increasingly dependent on donations from individuals to keep their programs running.
So far, with the support of McConnan Bion staff, as well as friends and family, Devon has raised over $1,000 for Pro Bono Going Public. If you’d like to contribute to Pro Bono Going Public, you can donate at Devon’s fundraising page.
