Michael was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2001 following the completion of his articles with McConnan Bion O’Connor & Peterson and became a principal of the firm in January 2006. Since his call to the Bar, Michael has developed a general litigation practice. Michael has appeared before all levels of Court in British Columbia, including the Court of Appeal. Michael has experience with bankruptcy, construction, builder’s liens, and other commercial litigation. He also has experience in corporate commercial matters including property transactions, incorporation, wills/estates, and other related matters.

Michael currently teaches the Construction Law / Builder’s Lien class for the Professional Legal Training Course and has been a sessional instructor for the University of Victoria’s School of Public Administration, teaching comparative public administration and law in the Master’s of Public Administration program. He has previously taught at the Faculty of Commerce at the University of British Columbia.

Michael is an active member of the Naval Reserve holding the rank of Lieutenant-Commander and presently serving as the Executive Officer of HMCS MALAHAT, Victoria’s Naval Reserve Division. He is also the vice-president of the BC & Yukon Branch of the Royal Lifesaving Society Canada and the Chair of the Civil Litigation Section (Vancouver Island) of the Canadian Bar Association.

In his spare time, Michael is a competitive cyclist, runner and triathlete. He has finished various marathons, triathlons, and bicycle races and has twice enjoyed competing in Ironman Canada.
