Alan joined McConnan Bion O’Connor & Peterson in 1976 and practises in the areas of corporate, commercial and real estate law, commercial financing, land use issues, construction issues and small business. He also has an extensive wills and estates practice. He acts as head office counsel and advisor to a number of credit unions in British Columbia providing him with significant experience in management and organizational issues.
In addition, Alan has over thirty years experience in collections and foreclosures. He has an active foreclosure portfolio for one of the largest credit unions on Vancouver Island and has extensive experience in various collection scenarios including managing difficult debtors, obtaining possession through court order and shortened redemption periods to name a few. Alan’s paralegal has been working with him for 14 years and is highly capable of managing a foreclosure file from inception through to final orders.
Alan has extensive community involvement including past service as a member and Chair of the Victoria Airport Authority, member of the Oak Bay Police Board, the Saanich Police Board, as a Councillor for the Municipality of Saanich, Chair of the Capital Regional District, and a Governor of the Victoria Conservatory of Music. He currently serves on the Board of the Victoria Chinatown Community Care Foundation, and is assisting the Greater Victoria United Way with their 2010 campaign. In his spare time Alan enjoys golfing, sailing, and travel.
