Born in Victoria, Bruce has practised with McConnan Bion O'Connor & Peterson since the firm was started in 1975. His preferred area of practise is in civil litigation with emphasis on personal injury, contracts, expropriation, labour law, insurance defence work and wrongful dismissal. He has been involved in many catastrophic injury claims in the past 20 years.
Bruce was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1987. He is the past President of the Victoria Bar Association, is a member of the Canadian Bar Association subsections on civil litigation and insurance law and is a former part-time law lecturer at the University of Victoria.
Bruce is presently the Chair of the Broadmead Foundation, a charitable society which raises funds for capital improvements to a residential care facility called The Lodge at Broadmead.
