Our law firm was founded on April 1, 1975, by David Lisson, Bruce McConnan and Patrick Bion. Michael O'Connor and Alan Peterson joined in 1976, and the firm practised as Lisson McConnan Bion O'Connor & Peterson until 1981 when David Lisson left the firm to do some traveling. David now practises in Darwin, Australia. The firm became known as McConnan Bion O'Connor & Peterson in 1981.

The firm's offices were located on the second floor, 837 Burdett Avenue, Victoria (across from the Court House) starting with one-half of the top floor and expanding to occupy the whole of the top floor by the early 1980's. In 1987, we had out grown those premises and moved to our present location at 880 Douglas Street.

For the first eight years of the firm's existence, we maintained a branch office at Ganges on Salt Spring Island. The Salt Spring Office was staffed on Tuesdays and Thursday with Pat Bion and Alan Peterson alternating days. From 1978 onwards, Alan Peterson took responsibility for the Salt Spring Office, traveling to Salt Spring Island two days per week. With the arrival of several full time resident lawyers on the island in the early eighties we closed our branch office, although we continue to have strong ties to many clients on the Gulf Islands.

The firm's practice has evolved along two main streams, one being litigation and the other, corporate and business law. On the litigation side, there are currently seven lawyers handling a wide range of litigation including personal injury, wrongful dismissal, construction, builders lien, estate litigation, commercial tenancy disputes, collections and realizations and property (tax) assessment appeals. Our corporate and business law group deals with a variety of personal and business law areas including commercial transactions (buying and selling businesses), real estate development, residential real estate transactions, mortgages, wills, estates, and estate planning, incorporations, joint ventures, and generally advising a wide range of individual and corporate clients on their personal or business legal needs.

As McConnan Bion O'Connor & Peterson enters the 21st Century, we find ourselves providing a wide range of legal services to residents all over southern Vancouver Island, maintaining always the high standard of practice that we have strived to achieve from the outset. The make-up of the firm gives us the opportunity to provide a wealth of experience to our client's problems, combined with the enthusiasm and innovative thinking that we expect of our younger associates.
